When I saw this I thought, AWESOME. I can’t wait to see what will come out over the next year. The possibilities are limitless these days.
Next update predicted is to far away…

I have been doing some reading online and it looks like the next update that should “fix all” issues that I complain about on a daily basis will be fixed in mid September. Supposedly Jobs has promised to have these issues fixed with this next update. I am not holding my break as I think these issues should have been fixed before 2.0 was ever released. Who cares if you have to push back a launch date. Look at Windows Vista, they bricked the whole first build and started over pushing launch way back and people still buy it.
Still the issues are here months into release. I can handle the text stutter and the many other little quirks that 2.0 has brought upon us but apps freezing and unable to open makes my life hard. I have to restore my phone all the time, removing data I would like to have on the phone so that I can do these podcasts. If it was not for my love of sharing these apps I would default my phone and go back to using web apps or maybe even jailbreak my phone. I was so close to going down to AT&T today and purchasing a second iPhone and activating it but that would introduce at least $60 a month into my life on top of everything else this podcast costs me. Maybe I should just reactivate my old iPhone on my current plan and activate my new iPhone on a plan where I can use it for the podcast only and restore it to default once a week so I don’t have to worry about the issues. Or… If the fix really does happen in the next 30 days maybe I will just go buy an iPhone, use it for 29 days and return it under the AT&T 30 day return policy. That sounds more like a good plan to me.
Anybody have any suggestions/thoughts or complaints they would like to add to the mix?
Today required 3 restores

I had to restore my phone three times today and I hope this time it’s right. None of my backups seemed to work. I am not a fan of the iPhone backup process. It takes to long and if anything happens on your phone it restarts the backup. I think I coughed once and the backup restarted. Anyway, today I am not a fan of the iPhone. Tomorrow is a new day. I think this podcast it starting to wear on my iPhone.

Update: 8:45pm
The third restore did not take. All apps except the native apps that come on the iPhone by default are freezing then closing before they finish loading. I click on an app, it’s load screen comes up, then it closes.
I have read online that Apple suggests a complete restore to factory defaults bypassing even my backed up versions. This sucks but I guess it’s what I have to do. Curse you Apple for yet again confirming my beliefs that you release products before they are 100% stable. Someone is going to start a class action suit soon. I can smell it.
Restoring my iPhone AGAIN!

Well, I am in the process of restoring my phone yet again because none of my apps will open. They all freeze and shutdown. Of course the default apps that come on the phone work just fine but nothing else does. This frustrates me because it takes hours to do a backup and hours to restore the phone, that’s if you can even find a recent backed up version to restore to. iTunes shows my late backup at 8/7/08 when I just did one right before restoring my iPhone. I am not a happy 2.0 camper right now. This is the second time I have had to do this since the 2.0 upgrade.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the fact that the phone works with apps and I don’t have to jailbreak my phone to have fun with it but Apple really needs to get their act together here. I know I do a bit more on my iPhone then the average person but still… If my Macbook Pro or my MacPro had this many issues I would have sold it and went back to a different platform. Apple needs to stop giving into whatever pressure it is whether it be investors or whatever it is and stop releasing product that is not ready for the public. If we wanted to be part of a mass beta test that is one thing but I feel like Apple released a beta product on us are slowly releasing fixes as we all come close to hanging ourselves in the closet by our headphones.
What are your thoughts, confusions, frustrations, complaints and/or other remarks?

9 App Updates

My wife and I just got back into the US and to my surprise there were 9 app updates waiting for me. I’m always kind of skeptical when any of my apple products have that many things to do at once but it went well. It took an hour to update all of them on the 3G connection but it updated with out crashing. Anyhow, more on my experiences at sea and in Mexico with my 3G iPhone when I get home.
Thanks for all of your support!

Thanks to the cruise ship I actually have signal at sea, no data though. Thought it was interesting how well the phone transitions to a new provider. Included is a screen capture.
The App came back, the very next day…

So simply deleting an app from your iphone is not enough. If you delete an app by clicking on the “x” you would assume the app was gone being that the phone asks you if you would like to delete that app. I deleted 4 apps yesterday from my iPhone. I just plugged it in to sync as I wanted to get some new podcasts to listen to at the gym in a few mins. The first thing the iPhone does is reinstall those apps. It has done this to me before but I didn’t really pay attention, nor care at the time. It is rather frustrating though that you have to go into iTunes and remove the apps as well. Make sure that you delete them completely from your iTunes Applications library or they will be reinstalled back onto your iPhone. It seems that your iTunes Library takes precedence over what is on your iPhone. It does not yet sync as nicely as Mobile Me does.
These apps not going away reminded me of this video and song from my childhood.
My 3G has horrible battery life

I’m using the new Wordpress iPhone App to blog about how horrible the battery life is on my 16GB 3G. It won’t last but 3/4 of the day. I have cut back on my Twitter usage when I am out and about to prolong the life. My first gen iPhone’s battery would last 2 days sometime longer.
Anybody else experiencing short battery life?
