AOL Radio iPhone App

AOL Radio for the iPhone has to be one of my favorite apps currently. I try to work out daily and having a good music variety is a must. Listening to the local radio stations is not even an option. The AOL Radio Stations play excellent music. The best part about this app is that it remembers the songs I have listened to. I can then purchase those songs in iTunes. How cool is that? I suggest you get this app. This is a 3G only friendly app, unless you are connected to a WiFi network.

Listen to 1000’s of internet radio stations on your iPhone of iPod touch. Bookmark your favorites and browse by genre. This is a great that gives you access to a ton of music.

In the tutorial the numbers 98, 128 etc. I refer to are actually the Bitrate of the audio feed which is the quality. The higher the bitrate the better quality the audio. Though the higher the bitrate also creates a bigger file to stream resulting in possible lag. Use your best judgment. I have found that 128 sounds just fine as most mp3’s are encoded at 128.

UPDATE 7/19/08:
Tuner is back in the iTunes App Store. I just received an update to the App and then noticed it is back in the store. This must have been why it was pulled from the app store. I have read that some major upgrades have been done to Tuner app to fix bugs that were causing problems. If you already have the app, look for the update in your iPhone’s App Store. If you were looking to buy this app, it is back in the store for purchase.

Shazam iPhone App Review

When you hear a song and wonder what it is, Shazam is there with the answer. Hold your iphone to the musit and with in seconds Shazam will tell you the artist and track name. You can even download the song through iTunes on your iPhone. This is really cool and a must have free app!

Written by Brian Davis:
Shazam is a very straight forward app. You hear a song and you cant put your finger on who that is. Open Shazam and hold it to the speaker and within a few seconds you have the artist, album and song name. That in it’s self is great. But there’s more you can tag this song and save it in your tags but also preview and buy the song from iTunes and it will also give you a link to the music video on youtube if there is one. So many options for a free app. This is a must have free app and a great way to find that song you always wanted.

Virgin Radio iPhone App Review

This Virgin Radio iPhone App says it is La prima radio con uno stile unico: Style Rock… Whatever that means. My message to Virgin is this: If you are going to let someone use your name, you need to make sure they do a good job with the app. All of the other radio apps blow this one out of the water. I hope to see something cool soon from Virgin as they are a company I admire.
